As we go to press, we just learned of the death of Sidney Evans, former mayor of the Village of Great Neck. Sid was a wonderful man who worked tirelessly for his village and for his community. He held many, many positions both in the village and in the general community. When you needed Sid, he was always there.
I was fortunate to have called Sid, and his equally dear, civic-minded wife, Leah, friends. When I began my career with the local newspapers on the peninsula, Sid was my mentor. He had a wealth of information on this community and he shared it all with me. He knew local government in and out, and this, too, he shared with me.
Sid was a warm, generous, caring individual who was devoted to his beloved village, the Village of Great Neck. He touched many lives and we will all miss his devotion and his hard work in so many ways.
We dedicate this issue of the Great Neck Record to our good friend Sid Evans. We hope that everyone takes a moment to remember Sid.
We hope to share more of Sid's life with the community, with a full story, in a future issue of the Great Neck Record. We extend our sincere sympathies to Leah and the rest of the Evans family.
For sure, Sid Evans was a big part of the "great" in Great Neck.
We will miss you, my friend.
