As Lake Success Mayor Robert Bernstein steps down from office, and, as he says, steps away from politics, this is a perfect time to look back, with Bob, on his exemplary years of public office, and try to thank him for all that he has done for all of us. He has done so much, with such dedication, such charm and grace, that it is almost impossible to touch on each issue he has tackled.
Bob, of course, has been a major environmental advocate, one of the first and foremost in this community. We can thank him for healthier lives! For sure, Lake Success residents are enjoying a much better quality of life, thanks to Bob Bernstein, be it zoning or a community center or just a safer, more beautiful, more efficient village.
Emergency planning! Wow! What a challenge! For years and years and years, Great Neck has talked about emergency planning, but it really wasn't until Bob took over at the Great Neck Village Officials Association that it all came together. He had a lot of help to be sure, other mayors working hard too; but it was Bob's administration that saw this crucial issue really move forward. Yes, now we are safer too!
And did we mention maybe the most important quality? Bob Bernstein is a really nice person. I am proud to call him a friend, both professionally and personally. I will miss Bob, as will all of Great Neck, whether or not they realize it. Bob Bernstein has made invaluable major contributions to this community; we thank him, and, again, we will miss him.
Bob, you promise to still "be around" and into community affairs. Please do keep this promise. I don't know how we would get along without you. Keep us in your thoughts, as you will always be in our hearts.
Enjoy this "retirement," but should you change your mind, just give us a call!
Many, many thanks for everything!
