Make sure to mark off May 7 on your calendar as Geico presents Special Olympics New York-Long Island Region's 35th Annual Spring Games hosted this year by the Great Neck School District. This largest regional event will take place at Great Neck South High School where in the true meaning of sportsmanship, over 1,000 Special Olympics athletes will be showcasing their skills in events such as track and field, tennis, and young athlete skills for 5-to 7-year-olds. Everyone is welcome to attend and show their support for these wonderful athletes.
Opening ceremonies begin at 9:30 a.m. with a heart-warming parade of athletes and volunteers. Over 4,000 people are expected to attend this competitive event including the athletes, local dignitaries, adult and student volunteers, and spectators. Don't miss the chance to be on hand to watch the courage and determination exhibited by the very special athletes who have trained hard all throughout the year for this competition. In addition to the tournament events, there will be an Olympic Village hosting fun-filled activities for everyone.
Special Olympics New York-Long Island provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with other athletes, their families and the community.
