The LI2Day Breast Cancer Walk, an organization dedicated to raising awareness and funding for the fight against breast cancer on Long Island, has announced that its 3rd annual 2-Day Breast Cancer Walk will take place on Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4. The walk will begin, and end, at Smith Point County Park in Shirley. The 35-mile fundraising walk has raised more than $700,000 in its first two years and organizers are confident they will exceed the $1 million mark after this year's walk. All funds raised by the event are distributed directly to service organizations serving the women and families of Long Island who are affected by breast cancer. Since its inception, the LI2Day Breast Cancer Walk has distributed more than 89 cents of every dollar it has raised directly to these Long Island organizations to help breast cancer patients and their families improve their quality of life.

"The LI2Day Breast Cancer Walk was created to increase awareness about breast cancer on Long Island and raise funding for local organizations whose mission is to improve the quality of life for breast cancer patients and their families," said Ginny Salerno, executive director and founder of LI2Day Breast Cancer Walk. "Long Island has one of the highest rates of breast cancer in the country and the 2-Day Breast Cancer Walk is a great community event where local companies, their employees and other Long Islanders can come together to help those who are affected by this dreadful disease. Our goal this year is to raise more than $400,000 and surpass the $1 million mark in the three years we've been hosting the event. Every dollar we raise stays right here on Long Island," Ms. Salerno added.

"It is heartening and encouraging to see the enormously positive response to a devastating disease that has personally touched almost every single one of us," said Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi. "In two short years, the organizers of the LI2 Day Walk have created sense of community like no other. I commend each of them, and all the beneficiary organizations for everything you do in your own communities and across Long Island every day. And I join in thanking Southwest Airlines for its sponsorship and all the artists who have contributed their talents to make this year's walk especially successful."

"The money we receive from Long Island 2-Day Breast Cancer Walk allows us to further support organizations through WALK radio's Walk For Women Breast Cancer Fund," said Linda Healy, marketing manager WALK 97.5 and Walk For Women's Breast Cancer Fund Administrator. "Together we are making a huge difference in the lives of hundreds of Long Island families who are affected in one form or another by breast cancer. And together we will beat this disease," Ms. Healy added.

This year's Long Island 2-Day Breast Cancer Walk will benefit a number of organizations on Long Island including Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program; Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition; Brentwood Bay Shore Breast Cancer Coalition; Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Women's Imaging Center; Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory; Cure Mommy's Breast Cancer; Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition; Islip Breast Cancer Coalition; Manhasset Women's Coalition Against Breast Cancer; The Maurer Foundation for Breast Health Education; North Shore Neighbors Breast Cancer Coalition; Sisters of Greater New York; WALK for Women Breast Cancer Fund; and West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition.

The LI2Day Breast Cancer Walk is a not-for-profit corporation and recognized as a 501(c)(3) corporation whose purpose is to raise awareness and funds to support those currently affected by breast cancer. All funds raised through the organization's events including the 2-Day Breast Cancer Walk and annual 2-Day Golf Outing are distributed to breast cancer organizations on Long Island.
