Write-in Wins Saddle Rock Trustee Spot
Julia Gavriel Won With Only 47 Votes --
In a probable history-making election on the Great Neck peninsula, Saddle Rock resident Julia Gavriel won a position on the village's board of trustees with a write-in campaign. Ms. Gavriel received 47 write-in votes, while incumbent trustee Gila Aizer, whose name was on the ballot, received only 27 votes. Alan M. Freedman won his first term as a trustee with 61 votes.

Great Neck Arts Center Executive Director Regina Gil has been elected to the prestigious Advisory Committee of the Partners in Education Program of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, D.C. The program is designed to assist arts organizations across the country in developing or expanding educational partnerships with local school systems to strengthen the role of arts in education.

Third Annual Long Island 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer
The LI2Day Breast Cancer Walk, an organization dedicated to raising awareness and funding for the fight against breast cancer on Long Island, has announced that its 3rd annual 2-Day Breast Cancer Walk will take place on Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4. The walk will begin, and end, at Smith Point County Park in Shirley. The 35-mile fundraising walk has raised more than $700,000 in its first two years and organizers are confident they will exceed the $1 million mark after this year's walk.
