Have you sent a letter to the Great Neck Record, waited to see it published, and then been disappointed when you never found it in print? The answer is most probably a very simple one. Did you follow our simple rules for "letters to the editor?"
Time and again we use this space to remind readers that they must type all letters, and include a signature and a daytime phone number, in case we have to verify the letter. We cannot accept hand-written letters. Our typists have a difficult time deciphering handwritings, and the result has too often been mistakes and misspellings.
Email letters, in a Word attachment, are fine. But please include a daytime phone number in case we need to reach you.
As for election time letters, once more, in addition to these very simple rules, there is an additional set of rules that also must be followed. As the time approaches for any election (village, town, special districts, school board, library board, park board, state or national elections) we always publish our election time policies for letters to the editor on the op. ed. pages. Be sure to check for this box as the next elections, village elections, come up in this month.
We do like to hear from you, so please just take care next time you want to write a "letter to the editor" and you will be delighted to see your views in print.
