Great Neck House Grand Reopening and Rededication
It was a wonderful day, Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, the day the newly renovated Great Neck House opened its doors to the community once again. The rededication ceremony, and party, was well-attended and the gathering of dignitaries was duly impressed with the extensive renovations and the beautiful "new" facility.

Old Village Enacts Moratorium on East Shore Road
The ongoing legal conflict about the rezoning of land abutting the Manhasset Bay side of East Shore Road from industrial to a waterfront development district by the Village of Great Neck took another twist Tuesday night, Feb. 7. In light of the recent ruling against the village in the suit brought by Walbaum, Inc. (see GN Record, Jan. 27, 2006, "Nassau Supreme Court Rules Against Old Village," Page 1.), the mayor and trustees of the village voted unanimously to adopt legislation establishing a temporary moratorium on all building and other construction in the subject area to allow the board time to reconsider the "most beneficial zoning for that property for the village's future development." The board might decide to re-open the environmental review process (SEQRA), but also reserves the right to appeal the decision of the court.

USMMA Mariners Sports Update
The 2006 United States Merchant Marine Academy Lacrosse Mariners will look to build upon last seasons Knickerbocker Conference semifinal berth and 4-2 league mark. Sixteenth year head coach Tom Gill returns a young vibrant team of 21 from last season's roster, in addition to 10 newcomers.

U 13 Boys Travel Soccer Team Tryouts
Tryouts to add players for this coming spring season will be held Sunday, March 12, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Great Neck North Middle School soccer field on Arrandale Avenue, for the Great Neck Road Runners U 13 Boys Travel Soccer Team. All boys born after Aug. 1, 1992 are welcome to attend.
