Supervisor Kaiman Calls State of the Town 'Excellent'
To an audience of about 130 constituents, community leaders and elected and appointed officials at the George Washington Manor, North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman delivered his third State of the Town address. The event, which is a luncheon hosted by the Port Washington-Manhasset League of Women Voters, was held on Feb. 9. In his address, the supervisor highlighted strong finances, renovated parks, and more accessible government as the town's major accomplishments this year. He also outlined three major initiatives for his second term: intermunicipal cooperation, community based planning, and the town's new 311/TOWNSTAT system.

School District Budget Events
Four budget hearings are scheduled during March, April, and May: Monday, March 6, North High, 8 p.m. (informal hearing); Monday, March 27, South High, 8 p.m. (informal hearing); Monday, April 10, North Middle, 8:30 p.m. (official hearing and adoption of proposed budget); and Monday, May 8, South Middle, 8 p.m. (discussion only). The budget hearings of March 6, March 27, and May 8 are preceded by student recognitions that generally run 30-40 minutes. The Board of Education will adopt the Proposed Budget for 2006-07 at the April 10 meeting.

Mariners Defeat Coast Guard for First Time
Led by Ashley Carlisle's team high of 24 points, the Kings Point Mariners defeated arch-rival United States Coast Guard Academy, 78-56, for the first time in the history of the Mariners' six-year program.

U 13 Boys Travel Soccer Team Tryouts
The 2006 Great Neck Soccer Club Spring soccer season will begin play in late March and the Great Neck Road Runners U 13 Boys Travel Soccer Team will be holding tryouts to add players for this coming spring season. Tryouts will be held Sunday, March 12, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Great Neck North Middle School soccer field on Arrandale Avenue
