The St. Aloysius of Great Neck seventh-grade CYO basketball team is currently 9-1 with two games remaining before the playoffs. The team needs to win their two remaining games to repeat as division champions. The seventh-grade team members are A.J. Grossbardt, Andrew Brash, Alex Weber, Aaron Shirian, Andrew Nikolai, Ali Ay, A.J. Hendler, Dary Schwartz, Constantine Amentas, Eric Weinstein and Stav Sofi.
Special thanks go out to the volunteers of St. Aloysius who are giving the children of Great Neck an opportunity to play basketball in an organized and competitive program and for giving our children who love the game of basketball an opportunity to be coached by men who want to teach the game in the spirit of what CYO basketball is all about.
The basketball program coordinator is Dennis Reed who with the assistance of Sal Bonavolanta, John Sobolewski and John Mangin have prepared fifth-through eight-graders with the skills to further their basketball careers in Great Neck and play for our middle school, junior varsity and varsity basketball programs. The following have volunteered their time this year to coach the St. Aloysius teams: Jay Priven, John Sobolewski, Alan Grossbardt, Paul Levy, Alan Kestenbaum, Kenny Hankinson, John Mangin, Dennis Reed and Bruce Halitzer.
For children interested in participating next season, information will be posted in the elementary and middle schools later this spring. Tryouts will be held in June.
