Nassau Supreme Court Rules Against Old Village
On Jan. 9, Judge Stephen Bucaria presiding in the Nassau County Supreme Court ruled in favor of the suit brought by Walbaum, Inc. against the Village of Great Neck. After years of discussions and public hearings, the village, in March of 2004, passed a local law to upgrade the zoning on East Shore Road from an industrial and business district to a Waterfront Development District on the east side and a Mixed Use District on the west side of East Shore Road. Walbaum, Inc., under the parent company A & P, owns 2.4 acres of land adjacent to Manhasset Bay in the rezoned area and almost four months later filed a lawsuit against the village for the change in zoning on the east side of East Shore.

Public Health Assessment for Stanton Site
Ms. Jacquelyn Healon will present a public health assessment at a public meeting sponsored by Stanton Cleaners Area Group (SCAG, Inc.) tonight, Jan. 26 at the Great Neck Plaza village hall at 7:30 p.m. Great Neck residents and business people are invited to attend and ask questions. To evaluate the potential health risks from contaminants of concern associated with the Stanton Cleaners Area Groundwater Contamination site, the New York State Dept. of Health assesses the risks for cancer and non-cancer health effects.

Rebels Down Blazers in Annual Affair
Throughout the school day on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at North High, shirts were being handed out with the phrase "Beat South" going across the middle. However, that promise was not fulfilled, as the South Rebels defeated the North Blazers 47-37 in front of a capacity crowd at the North High School gymnasium for the North/South basketball game.

USMMA Hosts All-Academy Wrestling Championships
The USMMA Athletics Department will host the twelfth annual All-Academy Wrestling Championships on Feb. 4, 10 a.m., at Liebertz Gym, O'Hara Hall. Witness all five federal service academies plus The Citadel, Norwich University and Virginia Military Institute compete in the biggest wrestling event of the season. With an attendance of 1,000 screaming fans, the All-Academy Wrestling Championships is the place to witness students crossing divisional lines to compete for the championship trophy.
