Who will be Nassau County's presiding officer? A decision that was supposed to occur last week is still up in the air and will probably not be made until sometime in the upcoming weeks due to current seat holder Judy Jacobs' political maneuver to block a fellow legislator's attempts to oust her.
Town Funds Wiles House Evaluation
The Town of North Hempstead, through its Development Corporation, will fund an evaluation of the Marion E. Wiles House, the old building owned by the Great Neck School District and situated at the South Complex. The building, no longer formally used by the school district, became a controversial issue last February, when the school district considered demolishing the vacant building (possibly to use the space to improve traffic flow) and residents came forward in an attempt to preserve what was described as a building of historical significance.
Mariners Men's Basketball Starts With a Win
The United States Merchant Marine Academy men's basketball team snapped its two game losing streak to end the 2005 portion of the season with a 80-65 triumph over New York College City Tech to start the New Year in style.
