Armed Home Invasion on Old Pond Road
A couple were handcuffed during an armed "occupied burglary" at their Great Neck home on Sunday evening, Dec. 11, according to Nassau County Police. Three suspects were quickly caught by police, who entered the home while the robbery was taking place, found the victims and their three grown sons handcuffed, on the floor, and began arresting the suspects, some of whom were still in the house as police arrived.

School District Tackles Stranger/Danger Issues
Two Great Neck middle school students were recently approached by two different unknown males, seemingly attempting to lure the girls into going with them. One incident occurred on the North Middle School grounds and one involved a South Middle School student at a bus stop. Both incidents are being investigated by the Great Neck Public Schools and Nassau County's Sixth Police Precinct. Reporting the incidents at the Board of Education's Dec. 5 meeting, Superintendent of Schools Ronald Friedman also emphasized school district intervention concerning safety measures and informational programs. Senior center Zach Wyatte, for the second consecutive week, earned Skyline Conference Honor Roll recognition for his part in leading the United States Merchant Marine Academy men's basketball team to a 1-1 ledger.

Two Football Mariners Named ECAC D-III Northwest All-Stars
Freshman kicker Geoff Troy and senior linebacker Charlie Mayrer of the United States Merchant Marine Academy Football team earned First-Team ECAC Division III Northwest All-Star honors for their respective performances over the course of the 2005 campaign. The Liberty League dominated the honorees with a total of 21 members named to the team.
