Rev. Warren E. Darnell, of Little Neck, died on Nov. 20, 2005. He was born Feb. 4, 1905 in Indianapolis, IN. He graduated from Hanover College in Indiana in 1928. On Sept. 4, 1929 he married Dorothy Gilbrech. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in 1931 and was ordained by the Presbyterian Church. He was pastor of the Little Neck Community Church in Little Neck for 53 years, retiring at age 79.
Rev. Darnell started the Interfaith Little Neck Community Union Thanksgiving Day service. He received the title of Pastor Emeritus of the church in 1985. He served as director and trustee of NYS Christian Endeavor Union Summer Assemblies, received the Hanover College Alumni Achievement Award in 1981 and was the last living founder of the Great Neck Clergy Association organized Dec. 8, 1941 to fight anti-semitism and promote brotherhood and tolerance between different religious traditions. He was elected as commissioner to the General Assembly of the United Presbyterian Chruch, USA 1957, 1960 and 1962. He served as moderator and on various committees of NYC Presbytery. He received a Citation of Merit presented B'nai Brith Lodge #2064 - 1964.
Beloved husband of Dorothy for 76 years. Loving father of Carol Freund, Alice Jones and Warren A. Darnell. Grandfather of seven. Great-grandfather of 10. Arrangements were made by the Doyle B. Shaffer Funeral Home, Little Neck. Service at the Little Neck Community Church. Interment Zion Cemetery, Douglaston. Donations may be made to the Little Neck Community Church.
