Plaza Affordable Housing Closer to Reality
The Village of Great Neck Plaza came one step closer to adopting affordable housing legislation at the Nov. 21 board meeting. The proposed legislation was sent to the Nassau County Planning Commission, a process that could take up to 30 days. In the interim, the hearing remains open for further input from the public and developers.

Whatever Happened to Diverting Our Sewage?
Most people sitting down to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast last week gave little thought, much less thanks, for being on a working sewage system. It is only disasters like Katrina in the Gulf or the multitude of hurricanes that hit Florida in 2004 that remind us of how thin the line between us and third world countries really is when it comes to having adequate sanitation systems in place and abundant potable water.

Art Shamsky Coming to Bruce's Bakery
Former Mets player Art Shamsky will be at Bruce's Bakery at 34 Middle Neck Road on Dec. 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. "I look forward to meeting and chatting with many New York Met fans who followed my baseball career and the exploits of the World Champion Miracle Mets of 1969," said Shamsky, who will be signing his book, The Magnificent Seasons.

Jay Gallagher Memorial Lacrosse Tournament
New York tri-state area's lacrosse athletes attended the eighth annual Jay Gallagher Lacrosse Tournament that took place at Saint Paul's Athletic Field in Garden City this past summer to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Seventy-six teams played in the two-day tournament and over 70 middle and high school students donated their time for community service, helping to raise $40,000 in the fight against cancer. All proceeds from the tournament went to support The Miracle (Making In Roads Against Cancers Lasting Effects) Foundation and The Andy Foundation on Long Island.
