Plaza Sets Sights on Affordable Housing
For several months now, the Village of Great Neck Plaza has considered affordable housing legislation and a proposal is now before the village. At a public hearing on Nov. 2, Mayor Jean Celender explained that the proposed legislation is for new buildings and for building conversions. She admitted that there are many difficult and complex issues that they must deal with, but they want to "make sense and make this workable." Mayor Celender also said that they hope to adopt this legislation as soon as possible, but, just in case, the village has proposed extending the temporary building moratorium into next year.

South Places Fourth at County Meet
The South High Swim Team stared at the clock as Carolyn Geller swam the last lap of the 400-yard freestyle relay. The seconds were going by fast and the relay had to beat a time of three minutes, 44.42 seconds to break the record. Cheers erupted and the whole team went wild as the relay team composed of co-captain senior Natalia Festa, sophomores Amanda Ackerman and Carolyn Geller and eighth grader Julia Festa broke the third Nassau County record of the night, this time by more than four seconds. In a sport like swimming where every hundredth of a second counts, this was huge.

USMMA Women's Volleyball Update
The United States Merchant Marine Academy bounced back from a 0-2 start at the Bridgewater State Halloween Classic with two victories on Saturday, Oct. 29 to claim bronze and conclude the regular season with a 15-11 overall mark.
