New York State Senator Michael Balboni was presented with the Great Neck Park District's "Friends of the Parks" award. First elected to the Senate, after serving eight years in the Assembly, Senator Balboni represents the 7th Senate District, which is located in the northwest corner of Nassau County on Long Island. And on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Parkwood at the third annual Nassau County 6 on 6 field hockey tournament the sun shone down on this beautiful day while 24 hockey teams once again came together to remember Joan Grunebaum, a teacher, coach and friend. The Great Neck Wolverines Boys U10 soccer team placed second in the Oceanside Labor Day Tournament. Their preseason intensive training of three hours per day for five days, dedication, teamwork and enthusiasm all contributed to their success. League games began on Sept. 10.
