The American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Jones Beach will be held on Oct. 16. Making Strides is Long Island's largest breast cancer awareness event, drawing tens of thousands of Long Islanders together to raise funds for the search for a cure and to honor survivors and those lost to the disease. Long Island resident Nicole McGuigan, a 5-year-old survivor of open heart surgery when she was just three weeks old, has been named the Red Cap Survivor Ambassador of the American Heart Association's Long Island Heart Walk.
