The Birth of an Historical Society
Let it go down in history that on June 30, 2005 a group of people gathered at the Great Neck Arts Center under the leadership of Deena Lesser and Regina Gil to take the very first steps in forming the Great Neck Historical Society and would become the 31st historical society in Nassau County. This steering committee in less than two hours developed a mission statement, enthusiastically brainstormed and agreed on a motto proffered by Ms. Gil, "A community that cares about its past, will care about its future."

CDC Golf Outing Raises More Than $150,000
This spring, Community Development Corp. (CDC) of Long Island held its 6th annual golf outing at the Engineers Country Club in Roslyn Harbor. More than 250 golfers and guests helped raise over $150,000 for CDC's Small Business and Home Owner Programs. After golf play was over, guests enjoyed fine dining, listened to speeches given by those who have benefited from CDC's programs, and won great raffle prizes donated by local vendors.

Around Long Island Regatta Set for July 28
The regional jewel of ocean racing is the Around Long Island Regatta, July 28, hosted by the Sea Cliff Yacht Club. This year will be the 29th consecutive running of the ALIR. Pete Bethge, an original founder of the Around Long Island Regatta, will be in attendance along with contributions from the other four succeeding regatta chairmen, Bill Nelson, Doug Wefer, Fred Bauerschmidt, and Carl Larsen. Their stories and input over the past 30 years are invaluable.
