Moving Ahead at GN Library: With Vision or Blindspots?
Jon Kaiman, supervisor of the Town of North Hempstead, was the surprise guest who showed up at the May 17 library board meeting to offer the support of his office and staff in helping the board to reach out to the public in a "visioning" meeting before moving forward with any altered plans for the renovation/expansion of the main library. The crowded meeting, held at the Parkville branch, drew approximately 150 people, many of them patrons of the branch. There was a scramble to regroup and provide chairs for those present and the cry of the evening was, "Speak up ... we can't hear ... next time, bring a mike."

Great Neck Memorial Day Parade Grand Marshal Francis E. Gould III
Second generation Francis E. Gould, III is following in his father's footsteps by leading this year's Great Neck Memorial Day Parade as Grand Marshal. His father, Francis E. Gould Jr. led the Memorial Day Parade in 1996. The Gould family has been in Great Neck for over 50 years and has been active in many local community organizations including the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department.

Temple Israel Holding Third Annual Golf and Tennis Outing
Temple Israel of Great Neck will hold its third annual golf and tennis outing on Monday, June 6. The event is great fun for all participants and also offers tremendous opportunities for businesses to gain exposure at the event through a variety of sponsorship opportunities.

South High Fencing Champion
Great Neck South high School junior Jared Rosen, captain of the Great Neck South High School foil fencing team, earned a silver medal on Saturday, May 14, coming in second place in the Long Island Division II and III National Qualifiers held in Brentwood. By coming in second, Jared qualified to participate in the United States Fencing Association's Annual Summer National Tournament in Sacramento, California to be held starting July 5. Fencers from all over the United States participate in the USFA's largest annual tournament, the Summer Nationals. Jared recently competed in National Tournaments in Dallas, Texas and Denver, Colorado. In Denver, he placed #14 of 128 fencers in the Division II USFA's North American Cup.
