Continuing the Quality of GNPS Education
The Great Neck Public Schools Board of Education has proposed a $152,035,700 preliminary working budget for the 2005-2006 school year. Presented at the March 21 board meeting, this proposal represents a 6.09 percent increase over the current $143,312,500 budget.
Library Expansion Moves to Front Burner
For the first time since the main library renovation/expansion was conceived, some 10 years ago, the general public turned out in large numbers, slightly shy of 500 people, and participated in a marathon public meeting that began at 7 p.m. and ran until 11:30 p.m. to speak out on the issue. If the statements at the March 14 meeting and the level of applause are reliable indications of the community pulse, it appears that there may be a very close, too-close-to-call split in opinion regarding the library's board proposal for gutting, expanding and redesigning the main branch with a bond of $19.4 million.
Suozzi to Participate in 2005 Reckson Long Island Marathon
"The Long Island Marathon is one of the most colorful and exciting annual events we host in Nassau County, and I'm here today to encourage Nassau residents, as well as our neighbors in Suffolk, New York City and elsewhere, to join us at Eisenhower Park on May 1," County Executive Suozzi said. "For everyone who gets involved, whether they end up running a few miles or all 26, I can promise it will be a great experience. And, as part of my own commitment to this great event and to physical fitness, I plan to join the thousands of residents participating in the marathon."
