(Editor's Note: As with all village elections, immediately following the last date to file a petition to run for office, the Great Neck Record contacts each village's clerk/treasurer, asking for the names of the candidates. And, as well, we ask that the village contact each candidate, asking for a biography, a photograph, and a statement as to why the candidate is running for office. Some villages, and some candidates, do comply. In the weeks to come, we will publish all such election materials.)

Six of the Great Neck villages --- Great Neck Estates, Great Neck Plaza, Kensington, Russell Gardens, Saddle Rock and Thomaston --- will hold elections on March 15. Elections will be held in June in the villages of Great Neck, Kings Point and Lake Success.

For the March elections, only the Village of Saddle Rock will see contested elections, with four candidates running for two trustee spots.

In Saddle Rock, the posts for mayor, village justice and two trustee positions are to be filled, with only the trustee positions being contested. The Saddle Rock Village Party has nominated Mayor J. Leonard Samansky for re-election to another two-year term, as well as nominating Robert N. Zausmer for the position of village justice, and Charles Hercman for re-election as a trustee and Mark W. Collins for trustee. The Greenline Justice Party nominated Hamid B. Sharifiazad and Anis Shashou for the two trustee positions.

Current Saddle Rock Deputy Mayor (and trustee) Fred Wasserspring and Village Justice Paul Tullman will not be seeking re-election. Senior Village Justice Tullman is retiring and Deputy Mayor Wasserspring will be moving out of the area.

Saddle Rock elections are on Tuesday, March 15, noon to 9 p.m., at Saddle Rock Village Hall, 18 Masefield Way.

The Village of Great Neck Estates will see no contest for the re-election of Mayor David A. Fox and trustees William D. Warner and Sydney Krugman. All are running for another two-year term.

Great Neck Estates elections are Tuesday, March 15, noon to 9 p.m., at Great Neck Estates Village Hall, 4 Atwater Plaza.

In the Village of Great Neck Plaza, Mayor Jean Celender and trustees Joel Liebowitz and Gerald Schneiderman are running unopposed for re-election to two-year terms.

Great Neck Plaza elections are on Tuesday, March 15, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., at Plaza Village Hall, 2 Gussack Plaza.

Kensington will not see contested elections this year. Trustees Richard Dennett and Alina Hendler are running unopposed for two-year terms.

Kensington elections are Tuesday, March 15, noon to 9 p.m., at Kensington Village Hall, 2 Nassau Drive.

Russell Gardens' mayor and two trustees are also running unopposed for two-year terms. Mayor Steve Kirschner and trustees Harriet Surks and Martin Adickman are up for re-election.

Russell Gardens elections are Tuesday, March 15, noon to 9 p.m., at Russell Gardens Village Hall, 6 Tain Drive.

In Thomaston, too, the mayor and two trustees are running in uncontested elections. Mayor Robert Stern and trustees Gary Noren and Steven Weinberg are running unopposed for two-year terms. Village Justice Michael Kent is running unopposed for re-election to another four-year term.
