Portnoy Family Raises Money for Children's Hospital
"I credit St. Mary's Healthcare System for Children with giving Zachary back his life," says Robin Portnoy, a Great Neck mother of four beautiful little boys, one of whom has come through years of fighting a life-threatening illness. For their own personal "thank you," the Portnoy family raised over $12,000 for St. Mary's second annual walk, the highest individual walk donations.

Looks Like One-Family Zoning for Steamboat Road
The Village of Great Neck appears set to rezone parts of Steamboat Road to residential, one-family housing, where a combination of commercial/residential zoning is now in place. To date, several zoning combinations have failed to see a revitalization of that area of the Old Village, and the most recent proposal from a developer went so far as to request a rezoning to four-family housing. The board of trustees listened carefully to residents at a public discussion on Dec. 7, and when one and all called for one-family houses, the board set plans in motion to rezone quickly. A public hearing is anticipated for Jan. 18.

Three USMMA Men's Soccer Players Named to NCAA Division III All-Metro Region Teams
Senior co-captains Marcial Alzugaray and Joe Meagher and senior keeper James Papazis were each named one of the NCAA Division III All-Metro Region Teams. Meagher was selected First Team All-Metro Region, while Alzugaray was named to the Second team and Papazis was named to the Third Team.

USMMA Swimming and Diving Teams
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's swimming and diving team took home its second straight fifth place finish at the ECAC Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. Freshman Jay Carpenter was named the Male Swimmer of the meet after winning four individual events, two of which qualified for the NCAA Championships in March.
