The US Merchant Marine Academy men's cross country team placed 12th, out of 27 teams, at the NYU Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park. Sophomore John Stockert (Dover, Ohio/Dover) finished in 54th position (28:58.5) to pace the Blue and Gray.
Freshman David Vasquez (Centennial, CO./Cherry Creek) was next for the Mariners, recording a time of 29:57.1, good for 85th overall. Close behind were senior Nathan Daffron (30:08.9, Albuquerque, NM/Sandia) and freshman Gary Rouse (30:10.6, Tallahassee, FL/Lincoln.)
Senior Adam Dawson (Butler, PA/Knoch) and juniors Adam Rapacki (Hauppauge, NY/St. Anthony's) and Shawn Strabridge (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) also put in strong performances on the men's side.
In the women's invite, freshman Callie Beeler (Brighton, CO/Brighton) recorded a career best time of 20:33/6, good for 14th overall. The women's squad placed 18th out of 22 teams.
Fellow freshman Marjorie Marino (Alexandra, VA/Hayfield Secondary) finished with a time of 24:18.6, good for a 148th place finish in a field of 240 runners. Senior Alisha Wolfe (Sagle, ID/Sandpoint), junior Julie Edsall (Lakehead, CA/Central Valley) and sophomores Kelley Edwards (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg) and Megan Jenkins (King George, VA/King George) also competed for the Mariners.
