This week our community officially welcomes our new superintendent of schools, Dr. Ronald Friedman. Dr. Friedman was chosen to lead the Great Neck Public Schools several months ago, and, although he just took over this week, he has been around so much that he is already a familiar figure on the peninsula, already a friend to Great Neck.
With his gentle voice and warm, easy manner, Dr. Friedman has made such a positive impact on students and parents alike. Over the past few months, we hear that he has been e-mailing some of our youngsters and he has certainly made himself more than available, attending numerous board of education meetings, visiting here and there with our just retired superintendent, Bill Shine.
Dr. Shine and the members of our board of education have all stated that Ron Friedman is "the only one" they could have chosen, the "perfect fit" for this job. Dr. Friedman has similarly stated that he felt right at home here, as soon as he finished his first interview. And Dr. Shine and the board have worked hard with the new superintendent to ensure a smooth transition to a new administration in our schools.
Great Neck has always prided itself on its commitment to its children and its commitment to a fine education for each and every one of those children. We welcome Ron Friedman to lead us in this continuing quest. We welcome him as our top educator, as a community leader and as a friend.
Welcome to Great Neck, Dr. Friedman!
