A New Superintendent and a Smooth Transition!
As retiring Superintendent of Schools William A. Shine finishes the last days of his 22-year post with the Great Neck Public Schools, he is ably helping to pave the way for the new superintendent, Ronald L. Friedman, who takes over on Aug. 2. Both superintendents were sworn in, for their respective terms, at the board of education's July 6 reorganizational meeting.

Nassau County Comptroller Brings New NassauRx Card to Great Neck
Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman will distribute information about the new NassauRx prescription discount card at the Great Neck LIRR station from 7 to 8 a.m. on Monday, July 19. The NassauRx card is a free card that offers Nassau residents a discount on retail prices for prescription medication. There are no age or income restrictions.

Dive into the 15th Annual Swim-A-Cross for the Red Cross
The American Red Cross in Nassau County (ARC/Nassau) encourages swimmers 12 years of age and older to join in its 15th Annual SWIM-A-CROSS on Friday, Aug. 20, at Centre Island Beach in Bayville. The Swim-A-Cross is a one-mile swim across Oyster Bay Harbor. All proceeds will benefit local ARC/Nassau services, including disaster relief and lifesaving programs in health and safety.

Soccer Summer Practice Package
Preparing for upcoming tryouts --- select or state? Interested in sharpening your skills or improving your game for the fall travel season? The U-12 US Club Soccer team at NY HOTA will be offering a program consisting of 10 sessions beginning July 27 and ending Aug. 26. All sessions will be conducted by state coaches. Sessions will be held on Tuesday/Thursday, 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the HOTA Fields. Players born after Aug. 8, 1992 are eligible and enrollment is limited.
