Thomas J. Long, 89, died on June 11, 2004. Husband of Eleanor. Father of Thomas, Father Garrett (Priest at Chaminade) and Patrick. Brother of Mary Ellen Jones and the late Sister Brigid Long. Grandfather of nine. Great-grandfather of 16. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Floral Park. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Victory RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Long Scholarship Fund at Chaminade High School in his memory.

Samuel B. Traum, CPA, 90, passed away recently at home. A 60+ year resident of Great Neck, born in Brooklyn, he was predeceased by his beloved and much loved wife Edith K. Traum (1916-1999).

In his business life, Sam was the recipient of numerous awards as a prestigious and highly respected member of the NYS Society of CPAs which he joined in 1954. He served the society and local Nassau County chapter in a variety of capacities. He was instrumental in developing new programs and he was a passionate teacher and speaker at seminars and conferences. Sam was well known to frequently offer new, innovative and inspiring, if not controversial ideas to his profession. He served as vice president of the NYS Society in addition to serving as president of the Nassau Chapter. He was the recipient of some of the highest honors in his profession including the NYSSCPA's Distinguished Service Award.

In recognition of a lifetime of service to his community, membership in countless organizations and commitment to his family and his profession, he recently received a citation from the NYS Assembly. His important contributions as teacher and mentor, and the role he played as a champion of peace and justice, earned him the respect and love of his community. In his private life he took great joy learning about the cultures of people all over the world. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by three daughters, Sara Beth Traum, Jessica Amy Traum, Irene Deborah Gold; two grandsons, Marcel Emile Traum and David Asher Gold. Sam's vitality, brilliance, sense of humor and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held on June 18 at 2 p.m. at Riverside Nassau North Chapel, Great Neck.
