The Reverend John J. Gorman, who served as a priest in the Dioceses of Brooklyn and Rockville Centre for almost 60 years died of natural causes on April 30, 2004. He was 84 years old.

John J. Gorman was born in Flatbush, Brooklyn, on Feb. 19, 1920 to the late Charles and Marguerite Gabrini Gorman. He attended parochial elementary school at Holy Innocents Church. He continued his studies at Brooklyn Preparatory School and earned a bachelor's degree in English at St. Peter's College in Jersey City. He studied for the priesthood at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington. He was ordained a priest on April 3, 1945 at St. James Pro-Cathedral in Brooklyn.

In 1990 Father Gorman became the 10th pastor of St. Aloysius in Great Neck. During his two years there he welcomed the Korean community to the church. The need for an active priest to minister to the community did not leave enough room for Father Gorman to live at that rectory after retirement, so he moved back to St. Joseph's in Babylon in 1992.

Father Gorman is survived by his sister, Rita Connelly of Sea Island, GA; sister-in-law, Eleanor Gorman; and brother-in-law, John Tokarz. A wake for Father Gorman was held in Nolan Hall at the Church of St. Joseph on May 2. A Funeral Mass was held at the church on May 4. Burial Holy Rood Cemetery.
