The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy tennis team fell, Tuesday afternoon, April 27, to Yeshiva University, as the Maccabees edged the Mariners in a close, 4-3 decision. The Mariners fall to 5-5 overall, and 2-3 in Skyline play, while Yeshiva improves to 8-2 overall, and 4-1 in the conference.
Seniors J.R. Guernsey (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) and Aaron Lewis (Marble Falls, Texas/Marble Falls) teamed up to defeat Yeshiva's Dani Nyer and David Wise in No. 1 doubles in an 8-2 decision. Guernsey later went on to win the No. 1 singles competition, defeating Nyer, 6-4, 6-2.
The Mariners garnered the doubles victory after Zishaan Raymond (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) and Justin Adams (Carrollton, Texas/R.L. Turner) defeated Maccabees' Zach Abromowitz and Aaron Mellul in a close 8-6 decision.
Patrick Singleton earned the third and final point of the day, defeating Yeshiva's Benjamin Harbor, 6-3, 6-7, 6-2.

USMMA-Kings Point wins doubles point, 2-1
Freshman Justin Adams of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy tennis team was dubbed the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year after a stellar first season with the Mariners. Also recognized was Mariners head coach Sean Perera as he received Skyline Conference Coach of the Year honors.
Adams, a Carrollton, Texas native, recorded an overall 14-4 ledger during the 2004 campaign, with a 7-2 record in both doubles and singles action. A Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week award recipient (Apr. 13), Adams tallied an 8-2 record versus conference competitors. Adams played at No. 3, 4, and 5 singles for the Mariners, and tallied a 6-2 record at No. 2 doubles.
Senior and team captain J.R. Guernsey (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) was named to the Skyline All-Stars First-Team, as he recorded a 10-8 overall record, while going 5-4 in both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.
Junior Zishaan Raymond (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) and Adams were named to the Skyline All-Stars Second-Team to round out the Mariners conference recognition.
