Nassau County residents and friends are invited to come learn how they can participate in the Long Island 2 Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer. The orientations will be held on Tuesday, March 23 at 6 p.m. at the Adelphi School of Social Work, Room 302, and on Thursday, March 25, at the Westbury Library, 455 Jefferson Street, across from the Middle School on Rockland Street.
This first-ever event for Long Island is a 35-mile fund-raising walk that will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 5 and 6. The walk will originate in Smith Point County Park in Suffolk County, overnight at beautiful Cathedral Pines County Park in Middle Island and end back at Smith Point.
Organizers hope to raise over a million and a half dollars to be donated exclusively to breast cancer organizations and research here on Long Island. The groups that will be supported are: Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program, Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition, Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition, Maurer Foundation for Breast Health Education, North Shore Neighbors Breast Cancer Coalition, and Sisters Network-LI Chapters. In addition, funds will be donated to cancer research programs at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, North Shore-Long Island Jewish Research Institute.
This event has the full support of the Suffolk County government, the Town of Brookhaven and the Nassau County Legislature.
