The United States Merchant Marine Academy pistol team competed in a quad-match at the U.S. Naval Academy, Saturday (Jan. 24), placing second (5,936) in the event. The Mariners defeated The Citadel (5,789) and the University of Viginia (1,831) - both Division I schools, while top-ranked Navy finished first in the four-school competition with a score of 6,432.

Senior Bo Feely (Camberley, U.K.) earned a third-place finish in the free pistol discipline with a score of 513. Senior Ted Strab (Yorklyn, Del./St. Mark's) led the Mariners with a 520 in standard pistol. Junior Jessica Phillips (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom), who, after only a few months of practice, is rapidly progressing. She had strong performances in the air pistol (320) and sport pistol (457) individual disciplines.

The last time the Mariners knocked off The Citadel was during the 2000-01 campaign.

Head coach Igor Zolotarev's Kings Point squad next competed in West Point, traveling to face service-academy rival Army on Saturday, Jan. 31.
