East Shore Road Rezoning Aims for April Deadline
In the latest version of an overarching plan for rezoning East Shore Road, the Village of Great Neck's mayor and trustees are working with planner David Stallman of Frederick P. Clark Associates to establish a formula for density that would provide incentives for a developer to acquire the whole parcel on the east side of the road. If a developer purchased the entire 9.3 acres, including the most northerly lot currently owned by the U.S. Postal Service and ending at the border of Water Pollution Control District, 16 dwelling units per gross acre would be the maximum number of units allowed. The working document entitled, Draft Waterfront Development (WD) District, dated Dec. 2, states:
Plaza Hears Plan for Welwyn Parking
The Village of Great Neck Plaza is now considering new parking plans for Welwyn Road that could include SUV parking. Early this past fall, following a series of complaints regarding parking and safety difficulties due to the large SUVs parked in the Welywyn Road area (near Marfred's), Mayor Jean Celender and her board of trustees addressed the issue. Their first result was a ban on SUV parking in that area. When a new set of complaints followed that action, the village officials reinstated the SUV parking and began to study the issue.
Great Neck South Swimmers Are Winners
Just a few years ago, who could have predicted that Great Neck South's Girls Varsity Swim and Diving Team would be a dominant team in Nassau County? Out of 24 teams, the Rebels advanced to third place. Coach Andy Berlin and Assistant Coach Richard Arluck, along with captains Kimberly Cook, Sarah Priven and Allison Schechter (seniors) are proud of the season record of 11-1-1 and winning the division title. In November, at the Nassau County High School girls team championships, everyone rose to the occasion which accounted for South's stellar performance.
Holiday Parkwood Skating Sessions
