On the recommendation of the board of commissioners of the Great Neck Water Pollution Control District, the town board of the Town of North Hempstead has announced the appointment of David L. Lurie to fill a vacancy as a commissioner of the Great Neck Water Pollution Control District. The district serves the areas of Great Neck Plaza, Thomaston, Kensington, Saddle Rock Estates, Saddle Rock and the eastern part of the Village of Great Neck, as well as the unincorporated area in Great Neck and parts of Northern Boulevard.

Mr. Lurie comes to this appointment as an involved individual in many aspects of Great Neck life, having come to Great Neck as a boy in 1938 and gone through the Great Neck school system.
The board made its recommendation because of Mr. Lurie's administrative involvement in so many aspects of Great Neck life for so many years, some of which include having served as president of the Great Neck Chamber of Commerce, president of the old Great Neck Real Estate Board, a trustee of the Village of Great Neck and a director of the former Old Village Business Association. He is currently serving as the chair of the Village of Great Neck Architectural Revue Board and he also holds the post as Village Assessor.
Mr. Lurie is also a member of the Manhasset Bay Protection Committee. The Manhasset Bay Protection Committee is an instrument that deals with the quality of the water in Manhasset Bay.
As well, David Lurie is the house chair of Temple Israel, a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, a member of the Lion's Club and a board member of his yacht club. Mr. Lurie also serves as president of his co-operative apartment house in the Village of Great Neck.
