Another Look, East Shore Road
Formal and informal communications between the Village of Great Neck's mayor and trustees and the Great Neck Park District's commissioners are proceeding quickly as the "window of opportunity" to possibly acquire the 2.7 acre Waldbaum's property on East Shore Road as an intergenerational community center by the park district is being explored. At the Oct. 7 board of trustees meeting, park board chairman Robert Lincoln asked that a trustee be named to serve as a liaison with the park board so that the two entities could work together cooperatively for the good of the community. Deputy mayor Ralph Krietzman will serve in that capacity.

Park District Increases Budget for 2004
The Great Neck Park District's proposed 2004 budget reflects a 9 percent increase over last year and weighs in at $9,190,911. Many of the increases were the result of hits that were out of the control of the park district such as the increased payments to the retirement system for $135,000 and an 18 percent increase for employees in the state insurance system.

Field Hockey Tournament Benefits Special Olympics and Scholarship Fund
In November of 2002 Carol Nesdill, Great Neck South High health and physical education teacher, and Nassau County president of the Long Island Field Hockey Players Association had a vision of a hockey field, a beautiful sunny day and players to compete in a field hockey tournament. The tournament would raise funds to benefit the Great Neck Spirits Special Olympics of Long Island and the Joan Grunebaum Memorial Scholarship Fund. Joan was a Special Olympics coach for the Great Neck Spirits and she was a physical education teacher at Great Neck North High.

Running Club Celebrates 60th Birthday of Great Neck's Vinny Croce
Vinny Croce of Great Neck celebrated his 60th birthday last month, and a bunch of his running friends from the Greater Long Island Running Club got together at the home of Barry and Barbara Aronowsky to help him celebrate the occasion.
