  • News: Temple Beth-El Reopens for the High Holidays

    As Jews all over the world welcome the New Year 5764, Temple Beth-El of Great Neck will also welcome its congregants back home to a ''new'' synagogue. Beth-El has just reopened, following extensive renovations and rebuilding. And although there is still much work to be done in this magnificent synagogue, this year the entire congregation will worship together for the High Holidays. FULL STORY

  • News: East Shore Road Concept Presentation Oct. 7

    In a surprise announcement at the tail end of the Sept. 16 Village of Great Neck meeting, Mayor Richard Deem reported that the Waldbaum's property on East Shore Road is about to be sold as a health spa. At the same time, the mayor also announced that he has attempted to intervene so that the Great Neck Park District might have an opportunity to purchase the property and develop that piece of East Shore Road into park facilities. The entire concept that the mayor and some personal advisors have worked on is scheduled to be presented at the board of trustee's Oct. 7 meeting. The park district commissioners are expected to attend and offer input as to their plans. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Tennis Pro Litwin Captures Double Gold

    Great Neck tennis professional Bob Litwin won two USTA National Tennis Championships on Sept. 13 at the Rockaway Hunting Club in Cedarhurst. In capturing the National 55 Grass Championships singles title, top seeded Litwin defeated third seed Peter Bronson of Scottsdale, Arizona 7-5, 6-4. He captured his seventh career gold ball, representative of National Championships, by winning the doubles with Charles Hoeveler of San Francisco over top seeded duo Neal Newman of Columbus, Ohio and Dan Bohannon of California. He did not drop a set all week in singles or doubles. Litwin is the president of the Sports Focus Institute and the Mental Training coach for Robbie Wagner Tournament Training in Glen Cove. He played high school tennis for Great Neck South. FULL STORY
