  • News: Old Village Looks Toward Subdivision Moratorium

    Freshly sworn into office, Richard Deem, the new mayor at the Village of Great Neck, ended his very first meeting with the stunning news that he plans to immediately seek a six-month moratorium on all subdivisions within the Old Village.   • News: Status of East Shore Road Updated

    Two years and one month ago, the Village of Great Neck issued a moratorium to halt any new construction on the commercial and industrial properties on East Shore Road while the village studied a proposal to upzone the14-acre parcel to multi-family mixed uses. At the July 8 board of trustees meeting, two owners of the larger properties stepped forward to plead with the new mayor and trustees to come to a decision about the fate of East Shore Road soon. Throughout the hearings on the matter and the discussions of the environmental impact statements, many of the property owners have been silent until now. FULL STORY

  • Sports: CMA 9th Annual Golf and Tennis Tournament a Success

    Golfers and tennis players alike came out to the Muttontown Club to partake in Community Mainstreaming Associates' (CMA) 9th Annual Golf and Tennis Tournament. On May 12 and May 19, generous individuals and corporations enjoyed a day of sport and camaraderie while participating in competitions, enjoying sumptuous food and winning awards and trophies. The event netted $114,000 which will benefit the men and women with developmental disabilities who live inn CMA's group homes and supportive apartments. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Jane Eichner Receives Presidential Sports Award in Weight Training

    Jane Eichner, a member of 30-Minute Fitness, Inc., located at 552 Middle Neck Road in Great Neck, received the Presidential Sports Award in weight training. In order to accomplish this feat, Ms. Eichner's health club recorded her progress during 50 hours of weight training, which lasted over a period of several months. The logs were then submitted to the President's Council on Physical Fitness. After reviewing her training methods and determining that she met all specified requirements, the Council presented Ms. Eichner with her Presidential Sports Award in weight training. FULL STORY
