Congratulations are in order to the Great Neck South Middle School wrestling team for completing a winning season this winter. This is a remarkable achievement considering the team is only in its second year of existence. Former wrestlers Paul Sasso and Mehdi Tavakolian, under the tutelage of Coach Godfreed, coached the wrestlers in the basics of wrestling, advancing them rapidly through rigorous training, discipline and commitment.
The entire team deserves accolades for this outstanding season. Some to the team's standout wrestlers included co-captains and MVPs, seventh grader Yoni Ginor who completed the season undefeated with nine victories, and second year wrestler, eighth grader Josh Mattana who completed the season with a 9-1 record. Other wrestlers of note were John McNichol, Daniel Sasso, Matt Cataldi and Max Novitsky.
Coach Tavakolian said, "the team improved dramatically from last season. It was a pleasure working with this great group of kids."
Many of the team's members are returning next year. Several are planning to participate in summer wrestling camps to sharpen their skills for
