Legislator Altmann Seeks Fifth Term
As Nassau County Legislator Lisanne Altmann (D-Great Neck) announces that she is seeking a fifth term in the 10th legislative district, she also told the Great Neck Record that she is keeping her options open and might, at some point, be interested in a New York State Assembly seat or the Nassau County Executive job. In seeking re-election to the Legislature, Ms. Altmann says that she intends to ''keep Nassau County moving forward.'' She serves as chairperson of the budget review committee and vice chair on the public safety and rules committees in the Legislature.

School District Adopts Proposed 2003-04 Budget
After extensive public discussion and input, during a lengthy and open budget process, the board of education has adopted a proposed school budget for 2003-04 of $130,986,900, an increase of 5.98 percent over the 2002-03 budget. It is anticipated that the average school-tax rate, computed by using the assessed valuation as of April 1, 2003, will be approximately $118 per $100 of assessed valuation.

ALLSTARS Basketball Program
The ALLSTARS Basketball Program will host a series of basketball leagues at Whitney Pont Road in Manhasset. The Leagues will start in June and continue through the end of August. Sly Johnson, organizer/coach of the ALLSTARS started the "Get the kids off the streets" program last summer. The plan is to have hundreds of kids in the park participating in structured programs, basketball, handball, paddleball or tennis.

Steppingstone Marina 7th Annual Blessing of the Fleet
The Steppingstone Yacht Club, the Stepping Stone Sailing Club, and the Great Neck Park District are planning a special Waterfront Activities Day on Sunday, June 1. The highlight of the day will be the 7th Annual Blessing of the Fleet. The activities will begin at noon (rain or shine).
