Dolly L. Gutterman passed away peacefully on April 12, 2003. She was a resident of Great Neck for over 67 years. Dolly and her late husband Matthew M. Gutterman founded Gutterman Real Estate in the early 1930s in a small shack on Middle Neck Rd. on the site where the Bank of NY and CVS presently stand. In her earlier years she was an active Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader. She was many times president and treasurer of the GN Real Estate Board.

Dolly L. Gutterman

Numerous awards were given to Dolly by the community for her service and devotion, including the Great Neck award known as the "Giraffe Award" on May 23, 1996. "List you house with us and start packing" is the slogan of Gutterman Real Estate and "for all these years thousands of Great Neck homeowners did exactly that, packing to leave and packing to move in." You could see Dolly at her desk mostly every day of the year where, when you came into the office, she would show you the photos of the annual dinner dances for the Great Neck Real Estate Board members that she helped organize and run. If you were a homeowner, she would give you a complete history of your home, previous owners, selling price, mortgage information and she always claimed "these records (which she alone kept the files on) are the best records of the housing stock on the Great Neck Peninsula."

Dolly, along with her daughter, Merle Holstein, still ran the office until shortly before she passed on. Her office at 591 Middle Neck Rd is still serving the Great Neck community in her tradition of honesty and integrity, and still showing the photos, memorabilia and her house files to anyone who desired to see them.

Dolly was loved by all who knew her and she loved everyone. A little lady of 4'9" with pure white hair and beautiful blue eyes, impeccably dressed, driving in her white Mercedes, will never be forgotten. She is the beloved mother of Merle and Frank Holstein and Charlotte Fishkind Leigh; adored grandmother of Andy and Rusty Fishkind, Julie Joy Saypoff, Cheri Lynn, Renée, Paul, Michele and David Holstein; dearest great-grandmother of Joshua, Larry, Shaina and Sarah Fishkind, Tali and Matthew Saypoff and Jordan Holstein.

Rest in peace and watch over us all.
