Close to Home: Megan's Law
Recently, peninsula officials were placed in a quandary when they received notification from the 6th Precinct informing them that a level 3 sexual offender, deemed at high risk for repeating his offense, was living in this community. Megan's Law is a federal law, named after 7-year-old Megan Kanka who was raped and murdered by a man who had a prior rape conviction, which requires states to maintain a registry of sexual offenders and to make some of that information available to the public. Under the New York State version of Megan's Law, police may inform the community of the presence of a level three offender along with legal warnings about complications regarding directly distributing the rap sheet, but offer little in the way of guidance for officials about how to effectively and responsibly handle the information.

Understanding Your Cable TV Options
As the local Cablevision service began offering a whole new array of options with the new iO digital service, a host of questions and complaints have surfaced. Confusion became the key word for the incorporated villages that belong to the Great Neck-North Shore Cable Commission. In an attempt to clear up this confusion, the Great Neck Record and the Manhasset Press met last week with Alice Fishman, chair of the Great Neck-North Shore Cable Commission, and Shirley Bruno, executive director for the Public Access Television Corporation.
