The 2003 Julia's Run for Children will be held Sunday, March 30 at the Yale University campus in New Haven, CT. Family and friends started this unique tribute to continue the ideals of their beloved Julia, a graduate of North High, who died unexpectedly in 1999, at age 21. The Run's proceeds benefit underprivileged youth, whose cause she continuously worked for and championed.

This year's four-mile Run will start and end on Yale University's Cross Campus. Serious racers, recreational joggers and walkers are expected to participate. Registration costs $12 ($15 on the day of the Run). The price includes a T-shirt, one raffle ticket and post-race refreshments. There is also a half-mile "fun run" for kids.

The annual Run is the primary fund raiser for the Julia Rusinek Memorial Fund, a not-for-profit organization. The previous three runs each attracted more than 300 experienced and beginning runners and raised a combined total of $17,500 for local organizations dedicated to improving the lives of children.

Julia's life serves as an inspiration for all those who knew her. She was a gifted writer, athlete, community volunteer, and a selfless humanitarian. While a student at Yale University, she dedicated her summers and much of her free time working directly with and on behalf of underprivileged children. She was a counselor at a Fresh Air Fund camp and an intern with the Children's Defense Fund and the Children's Law Center.

The Julia Rusinek Memorial Fund was started by her family and friends to ensure that Julia's commitment to children and love of sport lives on. The proceeds of this year's Run will be directed to support Leadership Education Athletics in Partnership (LEAP), which provides after-school enrichment programs for New Haven children.

To register for 2003 Julia's Run for Children, volunteer, or make a tax-deductible donation, call Roza Rusinek at 487-9502. To learn more about Julia, the Run, or the fund, visit www.juliarun.org.
