They said it was coming and they were right! The Blizzard of 2003 came, as expected, during the very early hours of Monday, Feb. 17, and packed as powerful a punch as was predicted. This Presidents Day snowstorm came at a relatively quiet time, the end of a weekend that was followed by a holiday off from schools and many businesses. Six of the Great Neck villages --- Great Neck Estates, Great Neck Plaza, Kensington, Russell Gardens, Saddle Rock and Thomaston --- will hold elections on March 18. None of the elections are contested. However, both Great Neck Estates and Russell Gardens will see new mayors. FULL STORY

With a 6-5 record the Great Neck North High School Blazers Varsity basketball team managed to squeeze their way into the playoffs at the 15th seed out of a possible 16 teams. Their first round opponent, second seeded Locust Valley entered the playoffs with a remarkable regular season record of 11-1. The Blazers came into the game with the feeling that they had nothing to lose, and were hungry for the first round upset to prove the non-believers wrong. FULL STORY

This past January, after 21 consecutive months, the bats of the Great Neck Saturday Morning Softball players were finally silenced, not by opposing pitchers, but by Mother Nature. The streak began April 7, 2001 and continued through to Dec. 21, 2002. During the fall and winter months of the streak, players sometimes had to contend with rain, fog and temperatures in the 20s. But in general, the temperatures in 2001-2002 were unseasonably mild. FULL STORY
