Putting Together the Pieces of the Tax Puzzle
The picture is pretty bleak but it is not as grim as first suspected; however, Don Ashkenase, Board of Education trustee, was correct in his assumption that Great Neck taxpayers are in for a tax increase. It appears that, due to increased residential home values and not because of reassessment, Great Neck homeowners will pay 5 percent more tax in taxes for 2003-04, no matter what happens with the school budget.

Too Big to Embrace
At the continuation of the public hearing on the East Shore Road re-development and rezoning proposal on February 4, a procession of residents, whether in favor or in opposition to the Village of Great Neck's trial balloon to switch the zoning from commercial to multi-family and mixed uses, stated that the number of projected 329 living units was "too much." Mayor Stephen Falk, who emphasized that nothing was in stone said, "Are we nuts or are we right about this idea? We want to know what you think and what your ideas are."

The Second Annual 5K Family Fun Walk/Run Is Coming to Town
The Second Annual 5K "Family Fun Walk/Run" for The Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop-University Hospital is coming to town on Sunday, May 4. The project coordinators, Lore Kent and Mindy Gordon, are enthusiastically gearing up for a phenomenal turnout this year!

Blazers and Rebels Renew Rivalry
They may not be competing in the same conference, but both the Great Neck North Blazers and Great Neck South Rebels always look forward to their annual showdown for bragging rights to see which school has the best basketball team in town. This year the Blazers had the home court advantage in the annual game against Great Neck South, though it was hard to tell with boisterous Rebel fans taking up half the bleachers. The long anticipated wait was over, as all of Great Neck would find out which of the two teams would come out on top.
