As he celebrates his 86th birthday, Great Neck's William P. (Bill) Gottlieb continues to cite luck as the key factor in the extraordinary successes he has enjoyed over the past 60-plus years. Kudos to Great Neck's seven high school seniors who were named semifinalists in the 2003 Intel Science Talent Search. Semifinalists from North High School are Gregg Geffen, Rachel Lavon, and Jennifer Ling. Their faculty advisors are, respectively, Elaine Weiss, Thomas Elkins, and Alan Schorn. South High's semifinalists are Jared Bass, James Lin, Kenneth Schultz, and Zachary Wissner-Gross. Their faculty advisor is Carol Hersh. For many years now, it has been a tradition of the Great Neck North track teams to attend the prestigious high school invitational meet at Yale University each January during the Winter Track season. Between five and 10 of the best athletes on each the boys and girls team are chosen to attend and run either relays Friday night, or individual events the following morning. FULL STORY

After successfully winning the Seaford Holiday Tournament over the break, the Great Neck North Blazers Boys' Varsity Basketball team began their conference schedule with road games against Farmingdale and New Hyde Park, and then came home to do battle with Island Trees. The Blazers are entering conference play with a head of steam, as they ran the table in their non-conference games at the beginning of the season, and took first place in the Seaford Holiday Tournament.
