Zoning Concept for East Shore Road in Preliminary Form
At the crest of the hill where Hicks Lane becomes East Shore Road, the view of Manhasset Bay sparkles on clear days and gives hints of a beautiful waterfront with its attendant egrets and herons that patrol the waters. But as one swoops down the hill passing by a number of stately homes, an apartment building, a park and a few undeveloped parcels, the view abruptly changes to one that is dotted with industrial sites, oil tanks, car repair shops, a few retail stores and sewage treatment plants that obstruct the water view. It would be hard to find a resident who admires the view at the base of the hill.

Clearing the Muddied Waters at GN Water Authority North
An article appeared in Newsday last week, titled "Floating His Loan" in which Great Neck North Water Authority's superintendent, Robert Graziano's compensation package was dissected. Speaking on behalf of the water authority's board, Edward Causin, the mayor of Great Neck Estates, said, "I think that once all of the facts of the situation are made clear, the public will understand that nothing improper, scandalous or embarrassing has occurred." Mayor Causin emphasized that the role of the superintendent in the water industry is extremely demanding, complex and important. "Let's remember," he said, "we're talking about the public's health and a vital service, our water supply. Bob Graziano is a highly experienced, well known, top-of-the-line professional... By the way, he has never pressured us for more money or benefits. We just know we want to keep him happy and working for us."

Team USA at Australian Maccabi Carnival
Ben Mostel and 56 Team USA colleagues celebrated the New Year at the 69th Australian Maccabi Carnival in Melbourne. Ben and his teammates captured the gold medal over Australian state teams from New South Wales (Sydney) and Victoria (Melbourne). Completing a sweep, Maccabi USA's Rugby and Women's Youth Soccer squads also returned with gold medals.
