Auxiliary Police Seeking Volunteers
Great Neck Central Auxiliary Police Unit 209 has been patrolling the peninsula for the past 20 years. Acting as the ''eyes and ears of the Nassau County Police Department,'' according to commanding officer Lieutenant Maria D'Amelio, this strictly volunteer unit also assists Great Neck's village police departments, when necessary.

South High Student Driving Compromise
An off-campus driving proposal from South High, a well-crafted compromise, received board of education approval at the December board of education meeting. In essence, the plan calls for serious driver education, modified driving privileges and a new upperclassmen lounge. Using this plan as a ''template,'' North High will now set to work on a proposal tailored to very different campus logistics.

Allstars 'Big Win' at the Garden
The Allstars Boys 15 and Under Basketball team ended their 2002 season with a victory over Wyandanch Project Hoops 16 and under basketball team. The game was played at the world's most famous arena Madison Square Garden.

GN Beats Garden City in Opener
On Dec. 11 at the season opener, Great Neck North High School Girls' Varsity fencing team welcomed two new coaches with a hard-fought victory over archrivals Garden City. Having won the Nassau County Championship two years in a row, 2000-2001 and 2001-2002, Great Neck North is the team to beat. Great Neck North's pursuit of a three-peat starts this season with two new coaches, Greg Rupp and Dan Stravino. Coach Rupp was a successful member of the Division I St. John's University Fencing Team. Coach Stravino is a graduate of Northwestern University and was the fencing team caption for three years.
