Years of hard work paid off for Lee Seeman. President George W. Bush just re-appointed Ms. Seeman to the US Commission for the Preservation of America's Heritage Abroad. This will be her third continuous term on the commission.

A Poignant Veterans Day in the Plaza
On Veterans Day, the rain lifted briefly in the afternoon. The family members of the six Great Neck residents who died on September 11, 2001 and many Great Neck residents and dignitaries gathered on Grace Avenue for the dedication of a plaque and lovely garden setting in honor of those lost and a reassurance to the families that we will never forget them. One family member remarked, "It is very touching that the community has done this. It is so hard to attend these memorials, but it means a lot to us."

Long Island American Heart Walk
On Sunday, Oct. 27, over 4,000 people from throughout Long Island joined the American Heart Association at the New York Institute of Technology and Nassau Community College to step out to save lives at the 2002 Long Island American Heart Walk. Some walked for themselves as survivors of heart disease. Others walked in memory of family members, friends or co-workers that have been lost to heart disease. All walked in honor of the more than 8,000 people from Nassau and Suffolk County who die each year from cardiovascular disease - the Long Island's No. 1 cause of death. Participants in the event raised $400,000 that will help fund American Heart Association research, community programs and cardiovascular education and advocacy.

Great Neck Soccer Club Tryouts
The Great Neck Soccer Club will be holding tryouts for the next year's travel teams on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 23 and 24, rain, snow or shine, at the Great Neck North Middle School soccer field on Arrandale Avenue. This is only for boys and girls born on or after Aug. 1, 1993 (current third graders, some eligible fourth graders). You must attend on both days, no exceptions!
