UCF Campaign Kick-off Honors Volunteers
Kicking off their new campaign year, the United Community Fund of Great Neck and New Hyde Park North used the occasion to honor three very special people --- Sherry and Henry Krostich and Harold Saper. The Krostiches received the Leo M. Friend Award and Mr. Saper was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

It's About Trust... Village of Great Neck's Development Tactics Rebuffed
After a contentious public hearing on Oct. 15 at the Village of Great Neck Board of Trustees meeting, the mayor and trustees withdrew a motion to place a six-month moratorium on any demolition, construction or substantive alteration to the homes on Arrandale Avenue. The purpose of the moratorium was to freeze development on the street and to allow for a "cooling off period" while the village proceeded with studying the feasibility of creating an historic district on the Arrandale Avenue corridor from Middle Neck Road to Polo Road. However, the subject of the historic district is not a dead issue as the mayor is requesting that the newly revived Arrandale Civic Association form a committee with the village to study ways to preserve the character of the street.

Nassau Community College to Host American Heart Walk Sunday, Oct. 27
Nassau Community College is the official Nassau County location for this year's American Heart Walk. Nearly 4,000 volunteers and participants are expected to take part in the walk, which will take place on Sunday, Oct. 27 with a health fair and registration from 9 to 11 a.m., the walk itself from 11 a.m. to noon and lunch and music for registered participants and volunteers beginning at noon.
