Serving Nassau County: Great Neck Arts Center Gala Nov. 14
''We serve all of Nassau County,'' said Regina Gil, executive director of the Great Neck Arts Center. The arts center mails out 55,000 course catalogues three times a year. Students of all ages come from all over Nassau County to participate in arts center classes and to enjoy the wide range of arts center cultural events and performances.
NYS Fourth and Eighth-Grade Math Assessments
''We are very proud of our results,'' stated Great Neck Public Schools Board of Education President Judi Bosworth, referring to the fourth and eighth-grade state mathematics assessments. Great Neck students ranked among the top in both Nassau County and New York State.
American Heart Walk Chairman Names 'Red Cap Ambassadors'
LIPA CEO and American Heart Walk Chairman Richard Kessel announced that Jeff Singleton of Lake Ronkonkoma and Jennifer Letini of Hicksville will be the "Red Cap Ambassadors" of the American Heart Association's 2002 American Heart Walk. Singleton and Letini will join hundreds of people from throughout the Long Island area that will step out, save lives - strengthen the chain of survival by walking in American Heart Walk at New York Institute of Technology in Central Islip and Nassau Community College in Garden City on Sunday, Oct. 27. "Red Caps" refers to survivors of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke or heart surgery who wear red baseball caps featuring the American Heart Walk logo and the slogan, Fighting Back! Thousands of survivors - like Jeff and Jennifer - throughout the country walk in the American Heart Walk. "Jeff and Jennifer have inspired and heightened the enthusiasm for everyone involved in this event," said Kessel. "More importantly they help create awareness about the importance of AEDs, CPR and the dangers of heart disease."
Great Neck North's Girls Volleyball Team Off to a Great Start
During the final week of summer vacation, the fall sport tryouts take place at Great Neck North High School. Here, all students can choose from a wide variety of sports that they often continue to pursue each successive year. For many, however, volleyball is the number one sport of choice.
