    In the eyes of the world, Rabbi Mordecai Waxman was a brilliant, articulate scholar, a giant in the Conservative movement of Judaism and a leader who made tremendous strides in the interfaith relationship between Jews and Catholics, not by appeasement and glossing over differences, but by courageous yet compassionate challenges to blind spots between the two faiths. Speaker after speaker who eulogized Rabbi Waxman on August 13 to a temple, overflowing with those who loved and respected him, spoke eloquently of a man ahead of his time in the breadth of his vision and yet firmly rooted in those qualities of tradition that enrich the soul and provide the foundation for unity and continuity of the Jewish people.   • News: Park District Creates New Look and Has New Wheels!

    Perhaps you've already seen our new logo. It's on the side of our new recreation van and is currently on all of our promotional material and will appear for the first time on our fall newsletter. The logo is composed of a tree, water and the sun enmeshed in the words "Great Neck Park District" using green, aqua and burgundy for a modern, sophisticated and upbeat look. It reflects our vision for the future because it's a change for the better. Our new recreation van, which was budgeted for purchase this year, is used for daily park district chores. We ferry equipment from one park to another and transport our recreation staff from Steppingstone Marina to the Parkwood facility and to outlying parks for extensive recreation programs that go on all season long.
