Emily Ostrover of Lake Success (GN South High School Class of 1998), capped off her successful four-year college rowing career at New York University as the NY State Collegiate Women's Pairs Champion, with teammate Catherine Starr of Westport, CT. The State Collegiate Championships took place May 4 at upstate Whitney Point.

Emily took up the sport of Crew right after she started attending NYU, enjoying the teamwork and discipline required to row in eight- and four-man boats. Every fall the team would travel to the Head-of-the Charles Regatta in Boston, where this past year the NYU women's "four" placed within the top 20 out of 80 clubs from around the world.

At spring training Florida this year, Emily and Catherine Starr practiced in the pair boat for the first time and a winning combination was discovered. Rowing in competition together for the first time, the pair won both the Manhattan Invitational and Metropolitan Championships at Orchard Beach in early April. On April 21, NYU's pair also won the Capitol Classic in Washington DC and then added their skills to power a second-place finish in the women's varsity eight race. Emily's last event on the collegiate level was the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia on May 11, a national college competition. Here, the pair took the bronze medal, the first medal ever won at this event by an NYU boat.

Emily graduated from NYU's Stern School of Business on May 14. Captain of the crew team for the last two years, she also earned the team's MVP award. She plans to continue to compete in crew for the NY Athletic Club throughout the summer and, hopefully, in the future. She is currently interning with the NY Power Professional Women's Soccer team and seeking a job in sports marketing.
